Malaysia bukan ‘tong sampah’, Lim persoal sisa binaan masuk ke Pontian

Malaysian MP Lim Lip Eng has raised concerns about the ongoing security gaps at the country's borders, particularly at the border crossing point. He questioned the effectiveness of the security measures in place at Malaysia's KLIA International Airport, where more than 26kg of drugs were allegedly smuggled out of the country via an unidentified plane.

Despite the incident having been reported 12 days ago, CCTV footage of the incident is yet to be made public. Lim urged transparency in the matter, stating that if all procedures were followed, the footage should be released for public scrutiny. He also brought up the issue of construction waste from Singapore being brought into Pontian, a district in Malaysia, for the past two years.

Lim claimed that around 20 lorries are suspected to be entering the area every night before the waste is disposed of in several locations. This claim has raised questions about how such frequent illegal activity could bypass the Malaysia-Singapore border checkpoints. According to Lim, if true, this is not a one-time or two-lorry incident.

Each lorry should leave a record at the Singapore-Malaysia border checkpoints, and the authorities should verify the cargo, documents, and approvals for the lorries. Malaysia, he argued, should not be considered a 'dumping ground' for other countries, especially if it cannot prevent its ports from being used as a loophole for illegal goods.
