Photos: 7.4-magnitude earthquake rocks western Colombia

A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Rescue efforts were underway throughout the night and into Tuesday as authorities scrambled to find survivors amidst the rubble. The disaster particularly devastated Colombia's renowned coffee-growing region.

At least 164 lives were claimed by the earthquake, with the Colombian Geological Service warning that casualty numbers could rise. The quake was described as the highest magnitude earthquake Colombia has experienced in the past decade.

In Cali, people sifted through the debris of a collapsed building. Manizales, in the Caldas department, was also left in ruins. A damaged structure in the cityscape bore the marks of the earthquake's fury. Throughout western Colombia, cities were left in disarray.

Police officers were seen navigating through the debris in Manizales, while a woman was rescued from beneath a collapsed building in Cali. Patients were being evacuated from a hospital in Cali as well. The earthquake's impact was widespread and severe, causing significant damage across the region.
