Permit RM30 untuk meja, kerusi di kaki lima KL

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has introduced three new measures for businesses in the capital, including a monthly permit fee of RM30 for each table and chair placed in the five-kilometer radius of Kuala Lumpur. Minister of Federal Territories, Hannah Yeoh, stated that the improvement applies to all businesses meeting the criteria, regardless of background or type of establishment.

Applications can be submitted at the respective district offices of DBKL, depending on the area and the width of the five-kilometer radius. Approval depends on the accessibility for pedestrians and wheelchair users, as well as emergency operations not being hindered. The previous regulation required restaurant and cafe owners to pay between RM20 and RM50 per table per month, plus a security deposit of up to RM10,000, depending on the number of tables.

Only businesses operating with a permit were allowed to place tables and chairs in designated areas, subject to strict size, placement, and operating hours restrictions. Yeoh explained that the permit for small-scale operations does not involve building structural changes, such as replacing pillars or lintels, only requiring the submission of a form to notify DBKL.

This improvement aims to speed up the application process for low-risk businesses without compromising adherence to requirements and safety measures. Premises ordered to close due to hygiene concerns can be considered for reopening within 24 hours after a thorough cleaning process, but reopening depends on DBKL's examination and confirmation that all food safety and hygiene requirements have been met.

These three improvements were introduced after consulting with Kuala Lumpur City Hall Mayor, Fadlun Mak Ujud, and representatives from the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Coffee and Tea Merchants' Associations.
