Pembangkang keluar Dewan enggan bahas RCI TH

Pembangkang members leave Dewan Rakyat, refusing to continue discussion on RCI Tabung Haji report following Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's absence at the special session today. Perdana Menteri Anwar Ibrahim's presence is crucial for providing comprehensive explanations regarding the report, especially as the session was called at the Prime Minister's request.

Whip of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Takiyuddin Hassan had earlier stated that Anwar's presence is essential for allowing thorough explanations to be given, particularly as the special session was convened at the Prime Minister's behest. He added that the opposition had previously submitted a letter to Speaker Johari Abdul to postpone the special session until Anwar returns from medical treatment.

Johari, when chairing the session, stated that MPs who do not wish to continue the debate may leave the House. He emphasized that the public is watching and urged those who feel the need to withdraw to do so.

Takiyuddin added that a discussion without Anwar's presence would turn the special session into a mere media event, as the Prime Minister, who initiated the issue, would not be present to answer and wrap up the debate. He questioned the decision of the government to conduct the session on the same day, rather than focusing on the RCI report.

Johari also mentioned that according to Rule 11(3) of the House of Representatives' Standing Orders, the opposition cannot move for postponement when the applicant is not present in the House, as the court can dismiss the case.
