Muslim-Muslim ticket: Ex-Imo gov candidate condemns cleric’s ‘infidels’ comment

Former Imo State governorship candidate Uche Nwosu has denounced remarks made by Plateau-based Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Jingir, who advocated for continued Muslim-Muslim presidential tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections. Nwosu described Jingir's comments as divisive and capable of fueling religious tension in Nigeria, urging religious leaders to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

Jingir had made the remarks at an event attended by several All Progressives Congress governors, including Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, praising President Bola Tinubu for adopting the Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 election and urging his audience to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the polls.

Nwosu condemned Jingir's statement, stating that it could undermine unity efforts among Nigerians and suggested that such divisive remarks should not be tolerated. He also called on the Federal Government to take action against statements that threaten national unity, emphasizing the importance of promoting unity and peaceful coexistence in the diverse nation.
