Muslim-Muslim ticket: Ex-Imo gov candidate condemns cleric’s ‘infidels’ comment

Former Imo State governorship candidate Uche Nwosu has condemned remarks made by prominent Plateau-based Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Jingir, who advocated for continued adoption of Muslim-Muslim presidential tickets. Nwosu described Jingir's comments as divisive and potentially capable of fueling religious tension, urging religious leaders to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

Jingir had renewed his support for Muslim-Muslim tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections during an event attended by several All Progressives Congress governors, including Kano and Jigawa state governors. He also praised President Bola Tinubu for adopting the arrangement in 2023 and urged attendees to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards in time for the polling.

Nwosu called the statement unacceptable and urged religious leaders to avoid making statements that could deepen mistrust between Christians and Muslims. He also appealed to both Christians and Muslims to remain calm and reject anything that could set them against one another.
