Mindef channels RM275.4m to MAF veterans’ welfare programmes this year

The Malaysian Ministry of Defence (Mindef) has allocated RM275.4 million, comprising 90% of the RM303.3 million allocated to the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), to support veterans' welfare programmes this year. The funding will be directed towards five primary areas: welfare, health, housing, education, and socioeconomic empowerment.

As of June, several initiatives have been implemented, including expanding cost-of-living assistance, providing medical equipment and disaster relief, and funeral management support for over 1,600 veterans. Health and well-being programmes have benefited over 4,738 veterans, with expenditures exceeding RM38 million. Thirty-four new home construction projects and 323 home repair projects have been approved for MAF veterans.

Education support for veterans' children, such as school assistance and opportunities for higher education, will continue. Mindef is also focusing on veteran socioeconomic empowerment through various partnerships, such as the Veteran Entrepreneur Empowerment Programme, IPR INTAN Programme, MyHero Tani Programme, and various career opportunities.

A Madani Veteran Care Programme in Merlimau, organised by JHEV, aims to understand veterans' living conditions and provide targeted assistance. Feedback from these visits will be used to refine welfare policies and programmes.
