Libya's National Oil Corporation warns of possible shutdown at Zawiya refinery after repeated drone attacks

Libya’s National Oil Corporation has issued a warning that it may halt operations at the Zawiya refinery due to ongoing drone attacks on oil facilities in the area. The corporation posted a statement on its official Facebook page, confirming that oil assets in Zawiya have been repeatedly targeted by remotely piloted drones. In the most recent incident, a drone struck the oil blending and packaging plant operated by the Zawiya Oil Refining Company, crashing near the main oil storage tank and pipeline network used for local oil production.

This is the third consecutive attack in just two days, and the corporation has warned that these persistent assaults pose a serious threat to oil assets in the region. The corporation emphasized the need for urgent intervention from relevant authorities to address the issue. While no casualties or material damage were reported in the latest drone attack, the corporation urged firefighting and safety teams to maintain maximum caution and readiness for any further developments.

The corporation stressed the importance of adhering to safety procedures and protecting lives, adding that if attacks continue unabated, its board of directors may be forced to take more drastic measures, such as declaring force majeure and completely shutting down the Zawiya refinery.
