Maintain law and order in Mandya over Cauvery issue, says Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has directed officials to maintain law and order in Mandya district amid the ongoing Cauvery water dispute. During a video conference with government officials and employees from all districts, Shivakumar emphasized that the responsibility of deciding the water release to Tamil Nadu rested with the State government, while ensuring law and order in Mandya was the district administration and police's duty.

He noted that it was not feasible to retain water indefinitely, as it would overflow once the Kabini reservoir reached full capacity. Farmers must plan their crops according to water availability and reservoir storage levels, and officials were instructed to raise awareness about water availability among the farming community. The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of a careful Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, ensuring that genuine voters could exercise their constitutional right to vote without hindrance.

Additionally, Shivakumar directed officials to establish Bharat Jodo Sanghas at the zilla panchayat level and distribute pamphlets to raise public awareness. He instructed the officials to take necessary precautions to prevent any shortage of drinking water in Mandya district. Shivakumar spoke to officials from Mysuru district during the video conference held at the zilla panchayat hall in Mysuru.
