Alicia von Schenk, a young and accomplished artificial intelligence (AI) professor, is setting the record straight on the biggest misconceptions surrounding the rapidly growing field. Born with an innate talent, von Schenk started school at the age of four and earned a perfect 1.0 grade average at 15 years old. After studying mathematics and economics at universities in Frankfurt and Heidelberg, she earned her PhD in economics with a focus on AI's impact, graduating with the highest honors in 2006.

Remarkably, von Schenk became a full-time professor at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität in Würzburg at only 30 years old, an age that is far below the average hiring age in Germany. Currently, she leads the chair of Economics of AI and Human Behavior, one of the rare academic programs in Germany that specifically addresses the economic and behavioral aspects of AI.

Von Schenk, who is considered a role model for her generation, attributes her early success to a willingness to think differently. She explains that the term "AI" is an umbrella concept that encompasses a wide range of technologies, from simple statistical tools to complex machine learning neural networks. According to von Schenk, this over-simplification of AI is problematic and fails to capture the diversity of the field.
