Korea Foundation launches university lecture series across Latin America

The Korea Foundation has announced the commencement of a university lecture series spanning Chile, Brazil, and Colombia. This initiative follows a recent diplomatic visit by South Korean officials to the region. The 2026 KF Korea Insight Lecture Series is scheduled to run from August 12th to 21st across six leading Latin American academic institutions. The primary objective of this program is to foster the next generation of scholars specializing in Korean studies within the Latin American context.

The lecture tour kicks off in Chile, where Kim Won-ho, a professor emeritus from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, will deliver lectures at Central University of Chile and the University of Chile. Professor Kim's presentations will delve into the rapid economic modernization of Korea post World War II, offering valuable policy insights for developing economies in Latin America.

As the lecture series progresses to Brazil and Colombia, the focus shifts to the socio-cultural impact of Korean media, particularly cinema and television. Park Jung-won, a Spanish professor at Kyung Hee University, will explore how Korean content reflects and mirrors broader transformations occurring within these societies. This lecture series aims to deepen academic understanding and cultural exchange between Korea and Latin America, promoting collaborative research and educational opportunities in the field of Korean studies.
