Korea Foundation launches university lecture series across Latin America

The Korea Foundation has initiated a university lecture series spanning multiple cities in Chile, Brazil, and Colombia. This series, known as the 2026 KF Korea Insight Lecture Series, is scheduled to take place from August 12 to 21 across six prominent Latin American institutions. The primary objective of this initiative is to foster the development of future Korean studies scholars in the region.

The topics to be addressed during the lecture tour encompass a wide range of subjects, from economic progress to the socio-critical themes explored in the globally acclaimed television series, Squid Game.

The inaugural lecture will be delivered by Kim Won-ho, a professor emeritus at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. His presentation will be held at the Central University of Chile and the University of Chile, with a focus on Korea's swift post-war economic transformation and the valuable policy insights it provides for developing economies in Latin America.

As the lecture series progresses to Brazil and Colombia, the discourse will shift towards the reflection of Korean cinema and television on the broader social changes within these countries. Park Jung-won, a professor of Spanish at Kyung Hee University, will spearhead these talks, exploring the cultural and societal influence of Korean media in Latin America.
