In quiet countryside, former president’s bookshop welcomes over 630,000 customers

Pyeongsan Books, the former President Moon Jae-in's bookstore, has become a popular destination since its opening over three years ago, with more than 630,000 customers visiting the quaint shop in South Gyeongsang Province. Moon first relocated to Yangsan, following his departure from office in 2022, and opened the bookshop on August 8th.

Since then, an average of over 500 people have visited the store daily, bringing the total number of visitors to 628,769. Moon, a known book lover, has volunteered at the shop daily, engaging with visitors and recommending books such as "Father's Liberation Day" by Jeong Jia and "To be Lonely is to be Human" by Jeong Ho-seung. The former president has also recommended 124 books to patrons, using the store's profits to support community initiatives, including donating 2,122 books to underprivileged children and teenagers.

The shop's efforts have extended to 79 small libraries in Yangsan and 1,280 more books to around 40 libraries across Korea, demonstrating Moon's commitment to using his influence to foster a love for reading in South Korea.
