In quiet countryside, former president’s bookshop welcomes over 630,000 customers

Former President Moon Jae-in's bookshop, Pyeongsan Books, has attracted over 630,000 customers since opening more than three years ago, with an average of more than 500 visitors daily. The store resides in a quiet countryside village in South Gyeongsang Province, Yangsan, where Moon relocated after leaving office in 2022. On August 8th, the shop celebrated its 1,200-day anniversary, noting that an average of 523 people visit the store each day.

Moon, known for his love of reading, has been a regular presence at the shop, volunteering his time to converse with visitors and share book recommendations. Despite the shop's small size, only around 30-pyeong, Moon dedicates himself to conversing with customers almost daily, only leaving during family holidays or events in Seoul.

In addition to welcoming customers, the bookshop has also actively given back to the community. By partnering with organizations that support underprivileged children and teenagers, including special needs schools and remote areas, Pyeongsan Books has gifted 4,466 books to 2,122 individuals and donated 3,950 books to 79 small libraries in Yangsan and 1,280 books to approximately 40 libraries across South Korea.
