Health inspector’s death: family says DMO ignored her condition

Deepa Lekha, a 51-year-old health inspector from Vadakara, died suddenly while attending a panchayat meeting, just days after receiving a transfer order. Her family is now accusing the Kannur District Medical Officer (DMO) of ignoring her deteriorating health condition. Deepa collapsed at the meeting before being taken to a clinic and later a private hospital in Kannur, where she ultimately succumbed to a stroke.

Initial reports suggested mental stress may have played a role in her death. The family claims the DMO was aware of her health issues but proceeded with the transfer despite her pleas to remain at Chokli due to her condition. Deepa had recently recovered from a scooter accident and had been struggling with mobility issues for months.

Her colleagues believe the stress of the transfer contributed to her demise. The family plans to file a complaint with the Health Minister, seeking an investigation into her death and accountability for those involved.
