Mumbai: Sachin Waze Seeks Bail In Antilia Bomb Scare And Hasmukh Hiran Murder Case, Cites 5 Years In Jail Without Trial

Mumbai, August 11, 2026 - Disgraced police officer Sachin Waze, imprisoned for his suspected involvement in the Antilia bomb scare and the subsequent murder of Thane trader Hasmukh Hiran, has petitioned a special court for bail due to his prolonged detention without trial commencing. On February 25, 2021, an empty SUV was discovered near billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Antilia residence, containing 20 gelatin sticks and a threat note.

Hiran, the SUV's owner, had reported the vehicle theft. Hiran was found deceased in a creek near Mumbra on March 5, 2021, with six handkerchiefs in his mouth and a scarf covering his face. Waze contends that he was apprehended on March 13, 2021, and the initial chargesheet was filed on September 3, 2021. He alleges that five years later, on May 29, the investigating agency submitted a supplementary chargesheet, which spans over 14,000 pages, involves 10 accused individuals, and lists 320 witnesses.

The case also comprises more than 100 TB of video footage and various digital and electronic evidence. Waze argues that the charges were only formulated on August 1, nearly five years after his arrest, and that a swift trial is improbable. His plea invokes the right to a speedy trial, as guaranteed by Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, which safeguards the fundamental rights to life and personal liberty. The court has now assigned the prosecution the task of responding to Waze's bail application.
