Forensic audits done on TH investments, says minister

Religious affairs minister Zulkifli Hasan revealed that forensic audits have already been conducted on the investments highlighted in the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) report concerning Tabung Haji (TH), according to the <source>. The minister disclosed this information during the conclusion of today's special Dewan Rakyat sitting on the RCI report.

This response came in answer to queries on forensic audits and a proposed multi-agency task force to scrutinize TH's investments. The RCI report had suggested forensic audits for 14 past TH investments, including PT TH Indo Plantations, FGV Bhd, and TH Plantations Bhd. However, the minister did not disclose the specifics of when the audits commenced, which investments were investigated, who performed them, or the findings of these audits.

Zulkifli explained that the government delayed releasing the RCI report to afford TH time to recuperate from a 2019 confidence crisis when around RM6 billion was withdrawn by depositors in a brief duration. He clarified that the "Madani government" opted to unveil the report now, as TH's position was significantly stronger at present.

Furthermore, Zulkifli stated that 75% of the RCI recommendations had been put into action. Regarding the termination of contracts for TH CEO Nik Hasyudeen Yusoff and chairman Nor Yusof in 2021, Zulkifli affirmed that the decision was made by then religious affairs minister Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri and was not prompted by any particular reason disclosed at the time.
