Fire razes Access Bank branch, residential building in Kano

Two separate fires struck Kano State on Monday, engulfing an Access Bank branch and a residential building. The Kano State Fire Service reported the first blaze at Access Bank in Dawakin Tofa around 1:17pm. A resident alerted authorities, who dispatched firefighters from Dawanau Fire Station. They discovered a one-story building, roughly 100 by 80 feet, fully engulfed in flames.

The fire also damaged a generator and partially affected an electrical transformer before being brought under control. The cause remains under investigation.

Later that day, at 6:19pm, another fire erupted at a residential building in Kumbotso Local Government area. Firefighters from the Sharada Industrial Area Station responded to the call and found a ground-floor home, approximately 40 by 30 feet, already ablaze. The blaze consumed two bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen before being extinguished using jets from the Sharada Fire Truck, aided by nearby factories. The source of this incident is also under investigation.

State Fire Service Director, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to stay alert and adopt fire safety measures. He recommended equipping homes with functional fire extinguishers and following basic fire safety practices.
