Disagreement over legal vacation: I know what to do - Atta Akyea on his next action

Samuel Atta Akyea, the lead counsel for former National Signals Bureau Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has firmly rejected allegations that his defense is utilizing the judiciary's legal vacation to delay the ongoing trial. Speaking on JoyNews' Top Story, Akyea stated that the defense has always been present in court and has no intention of obstructing the proceedings.

This assertion comes in response to Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, who had previously accused the defense of employing tactics, including the legal vacation, to slow down the trial. Akyea emphasized that he has been a consistent attendee of court since the beginning and that his approach is rooted in upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for his client, rather than seeking expedited proceedings.

The case involves Adu-Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei Boateng, Mildred Donkor, and Advantage Solutions Limited, who face 11 charges including conspiracy, theft, using public office for profit, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state. All defendants have pleaded not guilty and are currently on bail. The defense has previously disagreed with the prosecution over the pace of the trial, with the High Court dismissing their application for further disclosure of National Security operational account records in July 2025.

In response to that ruling, Akyea sought time to review the decision and consider an appeal or stay of proceedings, which Dr Srem-Sai opposed, urging the trial to proceed without delay.
