CBS delivers update on Tony Romo after his OWI arrest

Tony Romo, the 46-year-old former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, is currently on indefinite leave from CBS Sports following his July 23 arrest for operating while intoxicated (OWI) in Milwaukee. CBS Sports president David Berson confirmed this on Tuesday during "NFL on CBS" Media Day, stating that the situation is still evolving and there is no timetable or final decision.

Romo was arrested after allegedly failing field sobriety tests, and was found to have an open bottle of alcohol in his Jeep. He told deputies he was on his way to visit his grandma and grandpa after a golf course. Body camera footage shows him explaining his presence at the golf course. CBS put Romo on leave on July 31 as more details emerged.

J.J. Watt has since taken over as CBS' lead analyst, with Jim Nantz continuing as play-by-play announcer. Berson mentioned that the network's decision was made to protect their image and brand, emphasizing that the focus should remain on their presentation and the quality of their product. Romo, a fixture in the NFL for 13 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, holds the team record for touchdown passes with 248. He is set to appear in court on September 21 regarding his OWI arrest.
