Bukit Aman sends narcotics team to Jakarta to question Malaysian pilot held with 26kg ecstasy

On August 11, officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department arrived in Indonesia to question a Malaysian pilot held with a large quantity of ecstasy in Jakarta. Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director, Commissioner Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, announced the arrival of a four-man team, who have been granted two days to interrogate the suspect. The interrogation, scheduled for August 12 and 13, aims to gather additional detailed information to compare with their findings in Malaysia.

Hussein stated that investigators are actively tracing the alleged syndicate members but have encountered challenges due to phone numbers used for communication being registered under false or inaccurate identities. Additionally, four to five individuals have already been questioned to determine if an insider was involved in the case.

While Hussein expressed satisfaction with the statement provided, he clarified that it is still premature to reveal whether an insider was involved without substantial evidence. However, he did not rule out the possibility of an insider's involvement.

The case centers around a 39-year-old Malaysia Airlines pilot who was apprehended at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on July 28, shortly after his arrival from Kuala Lumpur. Indonesian authorities reported that over 26kg of ecstasy tablets and a small amount of methamphetamine were discovered in a suitcase the pilot had collected after customs officers flagged it during an X-ray inspection.
