Britain’s Glave upstages Jacobs to win European 100m gold

Birmingham hosted Britain's Romell Glave as he upstaged two-time defending champion Marcell Jacobs to claim the men's 100m gold at the 2026 European Athletics Championships. Jacobs, who had been the favorite, struggled with a poor start, allowing Glave to gain an advantage he never relinquished. The Italian suddenly slowed to a stop around the 50m mark, due to what he later described as a potentially serious injury to his adductor muscle.

Glave, who clocked 10.09 seconds for the win, credited his hard work and execution of his start for his victory. He also expressed satisfaction with Britain's dual gold medal performance, adding that it wasn't mentally taxing to secure the top two spots. Germany's Owen Ansah secured bronze in 10.19 seconds, while Jacobs, who faced speculation about a serious injury, finished seventh, over two seconds behind the winners.
