Britain’s Glave upstages Jacobs to win European 100m gold

In Birmingham, Britain's Romell Glave claimed victory over defending champion Marcell Jacobs, securing the European men's 100m gold. Jacobs, who had been the favorite, encountered a significant setback during the race, slowing to a jog around the 50m mark. This issue could be a serious injury to his adductor muscle. Despite the challenge, Glave managed to capitalize on the situation, clocking a winning time of 10.09 seconds.

World indoor 60m champion Jeremiah Azu claimed silver in 10.16 seconds for Britain. This remarkable performance marked an upgrade from Glave's bronze medal in 2024, fulfilling the goal of securing multiple medals. He expressed his satisfaction with his execution, stating, "It was an amazing feeling, just the work I put in to come here and execute my race."

The British team's dominance in the 100m events was evident, following Amy Hunt's gold win in the women's race the previous day. Meanwhile, Germany's Owen Ansah secured bronze, facing the possibility of a four-year ban from his national anti-doping agency for refusing a doping test. Jacobs, who finished seventh, admitted to suffering a serious injury, feeling something pull on his adductor before the race.
