BN, PH lawmakers push for new Tabung Haji RCI

On July 29, a declassified RCI report on Tabung Haji was made public, four years after the commission concluded its investigation in July 2022. Two lawmakers, Isam Isa from Barisan Nasional and RSN Rayer from Pakatan Harapan, have advocated for a new royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the management and operations of the Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).

Isam Isa argued that the scope of the previous inquiry only covered the years 2014 to 2020, neglecting crucial developments at TH since then. He urged that the inquiry's timeframe should be extended at least until 2025 to pinpoint weaknesses in TH's management and operations.

RSN Rayer echoed Isam's call, contending that a new RCI should identify those accountable for the financial and management shortcomings at TH. The current RCI failed to identify those responsible, or hold them answerable, including potential legal repercussions.

Isam also proposed that the management and governance of TH from 2022 to 2026 be examined by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to identify and rectify any weaknesses within the organization. The RCI report on TH, which revealed serious flaws in the pilgrim fund's governance, investments, and financial management, was released today during a special session of the Dewan Rakyat.
