BN, PH lawmakers push for new Tabung Haji RCI

(Illustration by Bernama) In the Dewan Rakyat debate on the current TH RCI report, two BN and PH lawmakers advocated for a new royal commission of inquiry (RCI). Isam Isa (BN-Tampin) argued that the report's scope only covered 2014 to 2020 and missed crucial developments.

He urged for another RCI between 2021 and 2025 to pinpoint management and operational weaknesses. RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) echoed this call, stressing the need to identify responsible parties for financial and management issues. He pointed out the existing RCI was insufficient as it failed to assign accountability or suggest further legal action, including court proceedings.

Isam, serving on the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), also suggested referring TH's management and governance from 2022 to 2026 to the PAC for further examination. The PAC would assist in uncovering and addressing any management shortcomings, he added. The RCI report on TH, tabled in a special Dewan Rakyat session, exposed serious flaws in the pilgrim fund's oversight, investments, and financial management, recommending a comprehensive institution overhaul.
