Berlin Little League's super season comes end in Bristol, Conn.

The Berlin Little League All-Stars' impressive season concluded in a rain-soaked game in Bristol, Connecticut. Naamans Little League, the Delaware state champions, clinched their victory with an 11-run outburst in the fifth inning, defeating the Maryland state champions 12-4 on August 10. This triumph, however, was marred by a series of twists and turns. Despite leading by three runs in the fifth inning of both games, Berlin was unable to maintain their lead, resulting in a heartbreaking end to their season.

Manager Anthony Torreullas praised the team, describing them as "a great group of kids." He emphasized the team's resilience and unity, stating that they will remember this moment for the rest of their lives. The team's collective effort throughout the past few months was acknowledged as a significant factor in their achievement.

The game's outcome was significantly impacted by a rain delay, which halted proceedings for 74 minutes. Despite the challenging circumstances, Naamans Little League managed to score 11 times in the crucial fifth inning, with each of the first five runs coming from bases-loaded walks.

Torreullas acknowledged the tough challenge Berlin faced, noting that the team had put in "really hard" practice and had bought into the game. He highlighted the players' willingness to accept the challenge, which ultimately led to their success. Jason Pontari, who struck out seven, was credited with the win, but had to leave with one out in the sixth inning due to Little League pitch-count rules.

The game's key players included Jonas Isett and Cooper Smith from Berlin, who contributed with two hits each, and Paddy Grugan from Naamans, who drove in a crucial run with an RBI single. Brady Winkelspecht also added a pair of hits for Delaware, which advanced to face either Pennsylvania or Washington, D.C. in the next elimination game.
