78-year-old woman killed in crocodile attack while collecting snails in Sarawak

A 78-year-old woman, Sambai Anggah, was tragically killed in a crocodile attack while gathering snails with her son in Batu Niah, Sarawak. The incident occurred on August 11, 2026, around 11am near the Sungai Suai tributary. Her son, who was only about a metre away from the scene, witnessed the attack. The incident was reported to the Niah Fire and Rescue Station, which dispatched five firefighters to the location.

The crocodile dragged the victim approximately 10 metres from the boat before releasing her after it was surrounded by villagers. Despite being found floating in the water and brought to the jetty, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
