2027: Police target AI, tech, intelligence for 2027 election security roadmap

The Nigeria Police Force has unveiled plans to develop a comprehensive security blueprint for the 2027 General Elections at a conference scheduled for September 21 to 23, 2026, in Owerri, Imo State. The event, themed "Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections," will bring together senior police officers, security experts, and key stakeholders to tackle emerging threats and devise operational strategies.

Discussions will focus on Intelligence-led Policing, Police-Community Partnerships, digital technologies, Artificial Intelligence, and other contemporary methods to bolster police operations before, during, and after the elections. The conference, primarily attended by officers of Commissioner of Police rank and above, aims to devise practical measures to enhance the Force's capacity for election security management.

The Police Force is also committed to professionalising its personnel to ensure a peaceful, safe, and secure environment during the upcoming elections. Meanwhile, state police commands, like the Lagos State Police Command, are collaborating with the Independent National Electoral Commission to safeguard electoral personnel and materials.
