Yendi SHS pulls off upset to book NSMQ national slot

Yendi Senior High School has secured a spot in the 2026 NSMQ National Championship following an impressive performance at the Northern Regional qualifiers. The school's 50-point victory over Northern School of Business and Dagbon State Senior High Technical School dashed NOBISCO’s hopes of reaching nationals. Yendi SHS's qualification was secured after a dramatic shift in their campaign, as they initially placed first runners-up behind Tamale SHS in their first regional contest.

However, the withdrawal of Kumbungu SHS opened up another pathway to qualification, allowing Yendi SHS to compete for a national berth. The school's strong showing, scoring 50 points, secured their place alongside Tamale SHS, Ghana SHS-Tamale, Tamale Islamic Science SHS, and Kalpohin SHS, who earned their spots through automatic qualification.

St. Charles Minor Seminary SHS and Tamale Girls’ SHS also earned their spots as top runners-up, filling the region's two additional qualification slots. Yendi SHS's qualification adds another layer to the Northern Region's 2026 NSMQ campaign, with the school set to challenge the country's top science and mathematics institutions at the national championship.
