World No. 10 breaks down in tears during match against Svitolina

World No. 10 Amanda Anisimova wept during her quarterfinal match against Ukraine's Elina Svitolina at the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto. The Ukrainian, who is currently ranked top in the world, secured a victory over the American with a score of 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and 19 minutes. Svitolina converted five out of 14 break points and only dropped two games herself.

Anisimova was visibly emotional on the court, unable to control her tears. This is Svitolina's second consecutive quarterfinal appearance in a WTA 1000 tournament, having won the same category in Rome earlier this year and the Toronto title in 2017. The next match for Svitolina will be against Ekaterina Alexandrova, a Russian passport holder who eliminated top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in the previous round.

Svitolina leads their head-to-head series 3-1. Earlier, fellow Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk was defeated by Iga Swiatek in a two-hour match for a spot in the quarterfinals. Swiatek commended Kostyuk's performance, calling it one of her best matches of the season.
