Iraola Unhappy With Liverpool's Performance

Liverpool's head coach Andoni Iraola voiced his disappointment with his team's performance following a 2-3 defeat to AS Monaco in a pre-season match at Anfield on Saturday. Despite taking the lead with goals from Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, Liverpool struggled to maintain their dominance, ultimately falling short against Monaco.

According to Iraola, his team's lack of fitness and energy on the field may have contributed to their loss. Players such as Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo, who had recently participated in the 2026 World Cup, cited as being less than 100 percent physically ready for the match. Iraola also mentioned that the team would require additional training time to fully prepare for competitive games.

While acknowledging his first successful match at Anfield, Iraola expressed his satisfaction with the overall experience. The Spanish coach will continue managing Liverpool, with their final pre-season fixture set for Monday, August 17, against Como at Anfield, before the team commences their regular season with an away match against Newcastle United.
