Video jelik kait Ismail Sabri, Mahkamah Tinggi kekal bebas Jufazli

The High Court has maintained the release of political activist Jufazli Shi Ahmad from two charges related to a video deemed inciting violence against former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Umno. Judge Aslam Zainuddin ruled against an appeal by the prosecution to overturn his acquittal and return the case to the Sessions Court.

After reviewing the appeal record, the Sessions Court rejected the appeal and upheld its previous decision, it said. The Sessions Court discharged and released Jufazli from the charges on 18 Oct 2024. Jufazli was accused of deliberately creating and uploading content reminiscent of inciting violence by uploading the video to his YouTube channel "King Maker Politik" on 27 Jun 2022.

The 37-year-old, who previously contested the DUN Tanjung Papat seat in PRU 14, also faced a second charge for failing to provide the URL of his YouTube account saved on his mobile phone to the police on 6 Jul 2022. The first charge was made under Section 233(1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which can be punished under Section 233(3) with a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both.

The subsequent penalty sets a fine of RM1,000 for each day the offense continues after the warning. The second charge was made under Section 248 of the same Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both if found guilty. Lawyers Ramesh N P Chandran represented Jufazli, while Acting Public Prosecutor Shahrizzat Amadan acted as the prosecution.
