Video jelik kait Ismail Sabri, Mahkamah Tinggi kekal bebas Jufazli

The High Court has maintained the release of political activist Jufazli Shi Ahmad from two charges related to a video deemed inciting, involving former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and the United Malays National Organisation (Umno). Judge Aslam Zainuddin ruled so after rejecting the prosecution's appeal to overturn his acquittal and return the case to the Sessions Court.

Upon reviewing the prosecution's appeal record, the Sessions Court dismissed the appeal and upheld the previous decision, according to the account. The Sessions Court freed Jufazli from the charges on October 18, 2024. Jufazli is accused of knowingly creating and initiating the transmission of inciting content by uploading the video to his YouTube channel "King Maker Politik" on June 27, 2022.

The 37-year-old, who once contested as an independent candidate in the 14th general election (GE14), also faced a second charge for failing to provide the URL of his YouTube account saved on his mobile phone to the police on July 6 of the same year. The first charge was laid under Section 233(1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, carrying a maximum penalty of RM50,000 in fines, up to one year in prison, or both.

The fine for non-compliance thereafter was set at RM1,000 for each day the offense continued beyond the warning. The second charge was also laid under Section 248 of the same Act, carrying a maximum penalty of RM100,000 in fines, up to two years in prison, or both if convicted. Jufazli's lawyers Ramesh N P Chandran and assistant prosecutor Shahrizzat Amadan represented him, while the prosecution was handled by Assistant Prosecutor Shahrizzat Amadan.
