Ukrainian drone strike kills 12, wounds 39 in central Russia

On Monday, a Ukrainian drone strike in the central Russian region of Tatarstan resulted in at least 12 deaths and 39 injuries, marking one of the deadliest single attacks in the four-year conflict. The attack targeted the city of Nizhnekamsk, an area rich in energy resources and home to numerous major oil refineries, which Ukraine has been striking in retaliation.

Unverified social media footage revealed a substantial cloud of black smoke emanating from an oil facility situated near the industrial city of Nizhnekamsk. Both Russia and Ukraine have significantly intensified their long-range attacks this year, leading to a surge in civilian casualties, according to the UN.

Separately, a Russian artillery strike in the northeastern Kharkiv region claimed the lives of five individuals in a village near the front line. On August 10, Russian forces executed a significant artillery assault on the residential area of Bugaivka in Chuguiv district, resulting in the destruction of several houses and the death of five people, as reported by the regional prosecutor's office.

Russia's defense ministry claimed to have shot down 456 Ukrainian drones during the previous night's attacks, though it did not specify how many of them successfully reached their targets. In Tatarstan, the region had previously reported a massive Ukrainian drone attack, with Ukraine's air force stating that Russia launched 126 drones during the night's assault.

Additionally, a woman was killed in a Ukrainian attack on the Russian border region of Belgorod, while a man was killed in a Russian drone strike on a taxi in the frontline Kherson region, according to local officials.
