Ukrainian drone strike kills 12, wounds 39 in central Russia

On Monday, a Ukrainian drone attack in the Russian region of Tatarstan resulted in at least 12 deaths and 39 injuries, marking one of the deadliest single strikes during the four-year conflict, according to the regional press service. Unverified footage on social media showed a substantial smoke plume emanating from an oil facility near Nizhnekamsk, an industrial city located over 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

This region is rich in energy resources and has become a frequent target for Kyiv's retaliatory strikes. Both Russia and Ukraine have ramped up their long-range attacks this year, leading to a rise in civilian casualties, as reported by the UN.

In a separate incident, a Russian artillery strike killed five people in a village in northeastern Kharkiv region, as local Ukrainian officials confirmed. On August 10, Russian forces launched a massive artillery attack on the residential area of Bugaivka, destroying several houses. Five individuals were killed in the attack, according to the regional prosecutor's office, who shared a photo of a house reduced to rubble.

Meanwhile, Russia's defense ministry claimed to have shot down 456 Ukrainian drones fired overnight, though it did not specify how many of those reached their targets. The Tatarstan region previously reported a massive Ukrainian drone attack, with Ukraine's air force estimating that Russia fired 126 drones during their overnight assault.

Additionally, a woman was killed in a Ukrainian attack on the Russian border region of Belgorod, while a man lost his life in a Russian drone strike on a taxi in the frontline Kherson region, according to officials from those areas.
