Transfer: ‘He’s indispensable’ – Michael Owen warns Man United against letting most important player leave

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has made it clear that the club should be willing to bend the rules to retain midfielder Bruno Fernandes. Owen considers the Portuguese player to be the most crucial asset at Old Trafford, urging the Red Devils to make every effort to secure his future with the club.

With Fernandes' contract set to expire in 2027, Owen insists that Manchester United must act now to extend his agreement. Since joining United from Sporting CP in January 2020, the midfielder has been an absolute force, reaching new heights in the 2022-2023 season. In that campaign, Fernandes shattered the record for the most assists in a Premier League season with an impressive 21.

Owen emphasizes that age should not be a factor in deciding Fernandes' future. In a statement to Sportskeeda, he said, "If I were Manchester United, I would certainly do everything possible." He acknowledges that there are rules and regulations in place, but he believes that the importance of Fernandes to the club's success justifies bending those rules.

Owen further expressed his belief that Manchester United cannot begin the season without Fernandes. He stated, "He is that important. Disregard his age, overlook everything else. He is indispensable if they wish to continue their advancement." Fernandes has been instrumental in Manchester United's resurgence since Ferguson's departure, making 327 appearances for the club, scoring 107 goals, and providing 108 assists.
