Plateau: One-Term Pledge Can’t Replace Devt Plan, PGID Tells Kefiano

The Plateau Initiative for Growth and Development (PIGD) has challenged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate Chief Kefas Ropshik Kefiano to provide a comprehensive development plan instead of emphasizing a promise to serve only one term in office. In a Monday statement, PIGD's National Coordinator Nengak David argued that the pledge raised concerns about the candidate's priorities and campaign commitments.

Voters in Plateau State, according to PIGD, deserve clear explanations of how Kefiano intends to tackle issues such as insecurity, unemployment, infrastructure, agriculture, education, and healthcare. "The people need to hear what Chief Kefiano will do with power, not merely how long he says he will hold it," David stated. Rather than a mere one-term pledge, PIGD urged Kefiano to outline policies, timelines, and measurable targets to allow voters to evaluate him based on competence and character rather than regional sentiment.

The group questioned why voters should accept the pledge without scrutinizing it, drawing a parallel with Kefiano's business career where he has never publicly declared a commitment to stop earning money. PIGD emphasized that its intervention was not exclusive to Kefiano or the PDP but aimed at candidates and parties throughout Plateau State.

"We call on politicians, irrespective of party affiliation, to speak honestly to the people," David concluded. "Campaigns must be driven by truth, realistic promises, and a genuine commitment to service. Plateau has endured enough from politicians making promises that vanish once elections conclude." The group advised residents to critically examine campaign pledges and demand issue-based engagements from candidates before casting their votes.

"Democracy becomes stronger when citizens refuse to be swayed by sentiment," PIGD added. "Each candidate must inform Plateau people about what will be done, how it will be executed, and how the public can hold the government accountable."
