PKR congress to focus on reforms, economy and party strengthening, says veep Amirudin Shari

The 2026 PKR National Congress, scheduled for this week in Bangi, will concentrate on reform initiatives, economic growth, and party strengthening, according to PKR Vice-President Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. The Selangor Menteri Besar affirmed the significance of government steadiness and the party's future during the congress decision-making process.

The motions currently under discussion are mainly centered on advancing the reform agenda, boosting the economy, and reinforcing the party, along with the president's policy speech, he told reporters after inaugurating the Human Ecology International Conference II (HEIC-II) 2026. Amirudin clarified that Nurul Izzah Anwar's temporary leave from her duties as PKR Deputy President would not hamper the congress proceedings.

The party's Central Leadership Council (MPP) had granted Nurul Izzah temporary leave after the 2026 PKR National Congress, with Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail assuming the temporary deputy presidency. Nurul Izzah's decision to step down was not unexpected, as political observers had been anticipating it for some time, according to Amirudin, who is also PKR Election Director.

The Melaka National Congress will take place at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh, from Thursday to Sunday. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PKR President, is set to deliver the opening address on Saturday.
