“Opposition has no room for you!” Jhanda tells Matiang’i to join Ruto

Zaheer Jhanda, an MP from Nyaribari Chache, has urged former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i to abandon his presidential aspirations and collaborate with President William Ruto to rebuild Kenya. Jhanda argued that the opposition had already set a different political path and was unlikely to include Matiang'i in their plans before the 2027 General Election.

The MP claimed that the opposition was positioning Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as their preferred presidential candidate, leaving Matiang'i with limited opportunities within the growing alliance. "Dr Matiang'i, the united opposition is not interested in you. They are already positioning Kalonzo Musyoka. You should stop waiting for a political vehicle that may never come," Jhanda stated.

Jhanda urged Matiang'i, who has been closely involved in opposition efforts to unite ahead of the 2027 elections, to instead work with the Kenya Kwanza administration. "Kenya needs all its leaders at this critical moment. Rather than spending your energy fighting President Ruto, come and help build the country," Jhanda said. Matiang'i has been a prominent figure in Kenya's opposition politics since declaring his intention to run for president in May 2025, focusing on unity, service, and experience.

As Interior Cabinet Secretary under Uhuru Kenyatta, Matiang'i held a powerful position in national security and administration, which has become a significant aspect of his presidential campaign.
