NYOTA Project begins nationwide mentorship for 122,000 youth entrepreneurs

The National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project has launched a nationwide mentorship program aimed at supporting over 122,000 youth entrepreneurs. The program commenced on Monday, August 10, 2026, with 4,879 experienced business practitioners serving as mentors to each beneficiary, who will not handle more than 20 mentees. Each mentee is assigned to a single mentor, who will provide guidance and support throughout their entrepreneurial journey.

The mentorship sessions will encompass various activities, including business site visits, cross-peer mentorship, sharing business case experiences, coaching, counseling, and market linkages. The government, in collaboration with county governments, is also developing innovative and blended financing growth products to help NYOTA beneficiaries access enhanced financing from catalytic funds, as directed by President William Ruto.

Furthermore, preparations are underway for the rollout of the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) training component, which will target more than 600,000 young entrepreneurs. This training aims to increase their participation in government procurement opportunities. Additionally, the On-the-Job Experience (OJE) component, focusing on socio-emotional skills development, is currently being carried out in 18 counties across the country.

Beneficiaries who successfully complete this training will undergo a five-month apprenticeship, working alongside experienced master craftsmen and employers. This hands-on experience, coupled with mentorship and occupational skill development, will enhance their employability and prepare them for sustainable livelihoods.

Completion of the mentorship sessions is mandatory for beneficiaries seeking further support from the program. The government urges all participants to maximize their engagement in these sessions to ensure their continued success and growth as young entrepreneurs.
