Nine-year-old allegedly bullied at Kedah tahfiz school, father claims

A couple in Alor Setar, Kedah has alleged that their nine-year-old son was bullied by a 15-year-old student at their child's tahfiz school. The incident allegedly occurred when the boy was at the school's hostel for a week-long holiday in July. The father, Syamsul Azrin Man, discovered the bruises on his son's face and body only after picking him up from the hostel.

The boy claimed he had been punched and kicked by the older student the day before, as well as having his head pressed against the stairs. Syamsul Azrin contacted a religious teacher at the school, who initially denied knowledge of the incident. The couple subsequently lodged a police report and took their son to the hospital for further examination.

The medical report indicated that the boy only suffered bruises, but Syamsul Azrin expressed concern that his son is traumatized and refused to return to school due to fear of the alleged bully. The father and mother are dissatisfied with the school's decision to only suspend the older student while their son was dismissed. The Kota Setar District Police Chief, ACP Syed Basri Syed Ali, confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

Police have recorded a statement from the older student, and are awaiting the victim's medical report before taking further action.
