Monsoon subdued over Pune as maximum temperature begins to rise

Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada regions are experiencing a subdued monsoon, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD). However, isolated heavy rainfall is predicted in Pune's Ghats until Wednesday, prompting a yellow alert. Similar alerts are in place for Satara's Ghats until August 11. Rainfall in Pune's Ghats has been declining over recent days; Tamhini recorded 50 mm of 24-hour rainfall between August 9 and 10, while Lonavala saw 9-18 mm on August 10 morning, compared to 102 mm and 24-47 mm on August 6.

Bhira and Davdi were the wettest stations on Monday, registering 46 mm and 43 mm respectively. No stations exceeded 50 mm on Monday.

The IMD advises travelers to take precautions in Pune and Satara Ghats due to potential flash floods, uprooted trees, collapse of weak structures, and water overflow on low-lying roads and bridges. Most other popular destinations remain safe to visit. In Mumbai, Thane, Kolhapur, Satara, and Sangli, the weather forecast is normal with light to normal rainfall.

Pune district is expected to have light rain within typical seasonal patterns. Throughout the day, rain is falling unevenly across Pune, with Lohegaon recording 6.6 mm in nine hours, while Shivajinagar observed only 1.8 mm and Pashan 2.4 mm.

Rainfall in Pune district since June 1 is 635.4 mm, which is 246.3 mm more than the average. Nationally, the country is facing an 11.8% rainfall deficit. Maharashtra, however, is not experiencing a rainfall deficit. Despite the easing of rain in Pune, temperatures are rising. On Monday, Shivajinagar's maximum temperature was 28.9°C, 1.5°C above normal, while the minimum was 22.4°C, 0.5°C above normal.

Lohegaon was 1.2°C warmer than normal at 28.6°C during the day, with a normal minimum temperature of 21.8°C. Warmth persists in places like Lohegaon and NDA, reaching 29°C on Monday. The IMD predicts morning and daytime temperatures to increase by small degrees in the upcoming days, with maximum temperatures potentially hitting 30°C in Lohegaon, Magarpatta, and Koregaon Park by Thursday. Other areas will be slightly cooler, and the sky will remain cloudy.
