Maharashtra Cyber Registers 803 FIRs Under ‘Operation 1930’ To Crack Down On Cyber Fraud Networks

Maharashtra's Cyber Crime department has registered 803 proactive First Information Reports (FIRs) across the state under Operation 1930: Cyber Safety, a campaign launched on July 1 to target the cybercrime infrastructure. The operation focuses on dismantling Layer-1 money mule accounts, fraudulent cheque and ATM withdrawals, illicit SIM cards, and Point of Sale (PoS) sellers believed to facilitate cybercrime.

Maharashtra Cyber conducted centralized data analysis while police units conducted field verification and enforcement.

The analysis identified 2,717 money mule accounts linked to disputed transactions totaling around ₹12.57 crore across 57 banks. Additionally, 3,597 accounts were found involved in cheque withdrawals amounting to approximately ₹89.30 crore, while 17,014 accounts and 10,075 ATM IDs were linked to fraudulent ATM withdrawals totaling around ₹70.14 crore. Furthermore, 5,684 suspect SIM cards were flagged for further action due to their connection with 7,312 cybercrime complaints.

The proactive FIRs were initiated without waiting for individual victim complaints, allowing the police to target the broader cybercrime ecosystem. The 1930 helpline receives between 8,000-10,000 calls daily, and in the first seven months of 2026, over two lakh cybercrime complaints were handled, resulting in the protection of approximately ₹514.36 crore for victims through timely intervention. Since the launch of Operation 1930 on July 1, ₹25.46 crore has been restored to victims through the Money Restoration Module.
