Interrogate all persons linked to former TOR MD bribery case – Mary Addah

Transparency International Ghana's Director Mary Addah has urged for the interrogation of all individuals connected to the case involving former Goldman Sachs banker Asante Berko. She believes a comprehensive examination of the roles played by everyone involved is essential for Ghana to learn from the situation and bolster its fight against corruption.

According to Addah, authorities must go beyond the US conviction and investigate the local aspects of the case, including those who may have been directly or indirectly involved.

The call for such an investigation comes amid renewed interest in the case following Berko's conviction in the United States over a bribery scheme related to a Ghanaian power project. Addah emphasized that cancelling the contract is not enough; authorities must interrogate all mentioned individuals to establish facts, identify potential wrongdoing, and determine if public officials breached Ghana's laws or ethical standards.

This development has prompted calls for a thorough investigation in Ghana. The Attorney-General has stated that Ghanaian authorities will collaborate with their US counterparts to examine the local side of the matter. This presents an opportunity for Ghana to demonstrate its commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring accountability for public officials and private actors.
