Homowo Festival Kicks Off In Accra

The annual Homowo festival, also known as "hooting at hunger," kicked off in Accra, Ghana, with a vibrant traditional procession through the city's main streets. Chiefs and members of the Ga community participated in the colorful event, which featured traditional music, dancing, and cultural performances. Residents and visitors alike gathered to witness the celebration of the Ga people's historic victory over hunger.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the traditional sprinkling of Kpokpoi, a ritual performed to commemorate ancestors and symbolize the Ga people's triumph over famine. King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, His Royal Majesty, joined other traditional leaders and community members for the event as the Ga State honored its cultural heritage and festivities. Kpokpoi, a traditional pudding, is poured over the heads of community members as a sign of respect and remembrance.
