Chiefs' Eric Bieniemy returns to practice after wife's shooting at their Virginia home

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy returned to practice on Monday for the first time since the shooting of his wife and the arrest of their son. Bieniemy was seen at Missouri Western State University, where the team's camp is held, greeted by a few fans. He immediately began his first practice after Mia Bieniemy was shot on July 26.

Elijah Bieniemy has been charged with several offenses related to the incident, and his court appearances have been delayed for a mental health evaluation. Bieniemy, who had been staying in contact with the coaching staff, even called head coach Andy Reid directly to offer a point of instruction for a running back. Bieniemy, part of the coaching staff that helped Kansas City reach three Super Bowls, left to become the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders.

However, the team struggled under his leadership, leading to his dismissal. He then spent a season coaching running backs at UCLA before coaching at Chicago Bears last season, before returning to Kansas City as the offensive coordinator, replacing Matt Nagy who was hired by the New York Giants.
