Mars Bar from 1991 found – and it's 20g bigger than today's

In a recent house clearance in Scunthorpe, a 35-year-old Mars Bar with a best-before date of 1991 was discovered. The chocolate bar, measuring 62.5g, stands out as it is nearly as large as the reporter's hand, significantly larger than today's Mars Bars, which weigh 40g. Victoria Gordon, the proprietor of a cleaning service, shared photos of the historic find on social media, causing a viral sensation due to its size and age.

Gordon explained that the bar stood out to her because it was nearly the length of her hand, remarking, "Wow, look at the size of that!" Mars Bars are produced by the US-based company Mars, Incorporated, which also owns a variety of other chocolate and non-chocolate brands. The company was established in 1883 by Frank C Mars, who learned the art of hand-dipping chocolate from his mother, Elva.

A spokesperson for Mars stated that over the past 35 years, the company has made adjustments to the size and packaging of their bars to adapt to consumer demand, while also considering manufacturing costs and the price of cocoa. The recent discovery of the oversized Mars Bar has left Gordon pondering what to do with the unique find, suggesting she may tour the UK with it or even attempt to sell it as a rare collectible.
