Carrington tells critics to do 'research' over 'white privilege' post

Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington has addressed her detractors, urging them to conduct thorough research amid the controversy surrounding her altercation with Indiana Fever's Sophie Cunningham during a WNBA game. Carrington was penalized for a hard foul on Cunningham and subsequently posted the term "white privilege" on social media, targeting Indiana Fever. This move has drawn significant criticism from various American sports analysts, notably former NFL star Emmanuel Acho.

Acho, during an episode of the Speakeasy Podcast, stated, "It was not a race-based decision. To label that a white privilege-based foul is to completely undermine the concept of white privilege and to disregard the rules of basketball." Acho argued that Carrington's actions were ignorant and asinine, as she connected with the ball without drawing blood, contrary to her social media post.

Despite Acho's critique, Carrington, 28, chose to respond on social media, clarifying, "I haven't once claimed that the assessment of the foul was white privilege; that was your assumption." She further emphasized her critical thinking skills and her educational background in the subject, stating, "I went to one of the top universities to learn about this very subject."

Carrington's response also included a defense against the accusation of using "white privilege" as a rhetorical device, asserting, "I would never use that term as a rhetorical weapon, knowing the historical and social weight it holds without having the proper evidence to substantiate it." After her team's 90-86 victory, Cunningham commented, "I think the league is taking care of this.

This has nothing to do with race. Last year, I did the same thing and I got kicked out, and I deserved to be kicked out. There's no reason even to play that card."
