Canada joins Ukraine, EU, and Switzerland in sanctioning UAE arms maker whose vehicles equip Russia’s National Guard

Canada, following the lead of Ukraine, the European Union, and Switzerland, has joined a concerted effort to sanction a UAE-based weapons manufacturer for supplying military equipment to Russia. The Streit Group, based in the United Arab Emirates, has been producing armored vehicles and other military hardware used by Russia's National Guard in its ongoing war against Ukraine.

Canada imposed sanctions on Streit Group after receiving credible evidence that its products are being utilized by Russia's military forces. The Canadian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the sanctions aim to reduce Russia's military capabilities and contribute to the ongoing campaign to deter Western nations from arming Russia. By aligning with the sanctions imposed by Ukraine, the EU, and Switzerland, Canada has closed a critical gap in the international sanctions network surrounding the Streit Group, making it increasingly difficult for the company to operate across multiple jurisdictions.

This move is part of a broader Western strategy to make supporting Russia's war economically untenable, tightening the sanctions around the networks that sustain Russian military operations.
