Assam floods: Death toll hits 100, relief and rescue operations continue

The death toll in Assam's ongoing floods has reached 100, with casualties reported in multiple districts as vast areas of the state remain impacted by the heavy rains. According to the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS) Assam bulletin, 100 people have lost their lives, including 60 men, 23 women, and 18 children (12 boys and six girls). Authorities have corrected the death toll in Sivasagar district after identifying a reporting error, raising the total from 50 to 49.

Sivasagar continues to be among the most affected districts, with 49 fatalities confirmed. Cachar has recorded 22 deaths, while Karimganj reports nine and Golaghat eight. Additional casualties have been documented in Dhemaji, Nagaon, Udalguri, Sonitpur, and Karbi Anglong.

Relief and rescue efforts persist in the disaster-stricken regions, with district administrations and revenue circles keeping a close eye on water levels and offering aid to those impacted. Both the central and Assam governments are offering support for relief, rehabilitation, and medical assistance, as authorities strive to guarantee that basic services reach those in need.

Chhattisgarh's Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai pledged Rs 5 crore in financial aid from his state government to assist the people affected by the floods in Assam. The assistance aims to bolster ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations in the flood-affected areas. In Jorhat district, approximately 1.66 lakh individuals have been impacted across 304 villages, with nine lives lost. The floods have also inflicted substantial damage to agriculture and livestock.
